Dishwasher Preventative Maintenance Tips

Dishwashers are great time savers. To keep yours washing well rinse your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher and a program of preventative maintenance including checking your pump, filters and spray arms can save you trouble in the future. Plugged spray arms are a common complaint. It's important to read and follow your manufacturers instructions and recommendations or call a professional like Stephen Faires at Nova Appliance to check it out for you. One of the simple things you can do is to clean your filter regularly if it's accessible (some machines have self-cleaning filters that you cannot clean) and check the spray arms for plugged holes. To clean them out remove them (check the instructions for info) and wash in your sink using lots of hot water and back flushing them thoroughly to wash any small particles back out of the larger hole and not out of the small holes. If you use liquid dish soap be sure to rinse well in clean water to prevent over sudsing your machine the first time you run it after cleaning the spray arms/filter.
